Ecommerce Website Cost in Dubai: What $2k–$25k Buys
Real price bands for ecommerce builds in Dubai, from a $2,000 theme setup to a $25,000 headless storefront, with what gets cut at every tier.

Key takeaways
- Ecommerce builds in Dubai fall into four realistic bands: roughly $2,000–$4,000 for a properly configured Shopify theme, $5,000–$9,000 for a custom design on a theme foundation, $10,000–$18,000 for a bespoke front end or light headless build, and $18,000–$25,000+ for a full headless Hydrogen or Next.js storefront.
- Page count barely moves the price. Custom templates, integrations, languages and how much original content we have to produce rather than receive: those move it.
- A theme can be restyled, but it cannot change how buying works. When guided selling, story-led merchandising or Core Web Vitals sit between you and the sale, the rebuild is the cheaper line item.
- Our builds start at $2,000 on a fixed scope and fixed price, agreed in writing after a free 30-minute call. No hourly billing, no percentage of ad spend.
- Budget for launch, not just the build. Platform subscriptions, gateway fees, apps, photography and the first ninety days of ads are separate lines.
The short answer: four price bands and what each one buys
Ecommerce website cost in Dubai runs from about $2,000 for a configured Shopify theme to $25,000 and up for a fully headless storefront. Most founders who ask us land between $5,000 and $18,000. Below is what each band actually buys, based on the scopes we quote and ship. Read it alongside our published pricing and how we quote.
| Band | What you get | Typical build time |
|---|---|---|
| $2,000–$4,000 | Shopify theme configured properly: brand colours and type, up to about 50 products loaded, payments and shipping set, analytics and consent, basic SEO | 2–3 weeks |
| $5,000–$9,000 | Custom-designed sections on a theme foundation, bespoke home, PDP and collection layouts, copy support, email flows, Arabic or a second language | 4–6 weeks |
| $10,000–$18,000 | Bespoke front end or light headless: Next.js pages against the Shopify Storefront API, custom merchandising, CRM or ERP integration, WhatsApp lead capture | 6–10 weeks |
| $18,000–$25,000+ | Full headless Hydrogen or Next.js commerce: product configurators, guided selling, multi-region and multi-currency, performance budget enforced in CI | 10–16 weeks |
$2,000–$4,000: a configured theme, launched properly
This is a real store, launched with care. Premium theme, your brand applied, products and variants loaded, a UAE payment gateway connected, tax and shipping zones correct, GA4 and the Meta pixel firing on the right events. What you are buying is judgement about setup, not custom software.
$5,000–$9,000: custom design on a theme foundation
Here we design the pages that sell and build them as reusable sections inside the theme. Your PDP stops looking like everyone else's. You get copy that carries an origin story, a second language if you need one, and email flows that recover carts. The underlying template logic is still Shopify's, which is exactly why this band is affordable.
$10,000–$18,000: bespoke front end or light headless
The price jumps here because we stop decorating and start writing software. A Next.js front end talks to Shopify's Storefront API, checkout stays with Shopify, and we can build a quiz, a configurator, a subscription flow or a dealer portal that a theme could never hold.
$18,000–$25,000+: full headless Hydrogen or Next.js commerce
Full headless is for catalogues that need merchandising logic, brands selling across regions and currencies, and sites where load time is measurable revenue. We enforce a performance budget, build a content model the marketing team can use without a developer, and deploy on Vercel.
What actually drives the number on the quote
Number of custom templates, not number of pages
Forty products on one product template cost less than four products on four bespoke templates. When you ask for a quote, count templates: home, collection, product, cart, about, journal, contact, landing page. Each new template is design, build, responsive work and QA.
Catalogue size, variants and how products are merchandised
Loading 40 SKUs is administration. Loading 400 SKUs with size, material and engraving variants, metafields for ingredients and origin, and rules for what shows up in which collection is a data project. Clean CSVs from you cut this line item significantly.
Integrations: ERP, CRM, WhatsApp, invoicing, shipping
Every system you connect adds scope. A HubSpot sync, an Odoo or Zoho ERP, Aramex or Shipa rate calls, WhatsApp Business API order updates, automated invoicing: each one needs credentials, a sandbox, error handling and a retry path. We often build these in Make or n8n where the volume is low and in custom APIs where it is not.
Arabic and multi-currency: what bilingual really costs
An Arabic store is not a translation plugin. It is right-to-left layout for every component, a second set of product copy, Arabic typography that does not look like a default, and hreflang done properly. Add roughly 20 to 30 per cent to design and build, plus translation. Multi-currency and multi-region add tax logic and shipping rules on top.
Content you supply versus content we produce
The widest variable is content. If you send photography, product copy and brand assets, we build. If we art-direct a shoot in Dubai, write 40 product descriptions and direct a film, that is a separate scope with its own price.
What gets cut at each tier
Cut at $2,000: custom layouts, bespoke photography, complex integrations
At $2,000 you get the theme's layouts, your own photography or stock, and the integrations Shopify apps already handle. No custom sections, no quiz, no ERP sync. If your product needs explaining before it sells, this band will undersell it.
Cut at $6,000: headless performance, custom checkout-adjacent logic
A custom-designed theme can look excellent and still be limited by Liquid rendering and app scripts. Cart-level logic, bundles with conditional pricing, real-time stock from a warehouse system: these belong in the band above. Be honest about whether you need them in year one.
What we will not cut at any price
Ownership, speed and handover. The code sits in your repository, the Shopify store and domain are in your name, and we set a performance target before design starts. Every build ends with a walkthrough and a Loom library so your team can edit without calling us.
Where a theme stops being the cheaper option
The three signals that you have outgrown a theme
One: customers need guidance before they buy, and a static grid cannot give it. Two: your story is the reason for the price, and the theme flattens it into a banner and three columns. Three: your Core Web Vitals are failing because of apps you cannot remove. Any two of those and a theme is now the expensive choice.
What Oleum Crete changed, and what it cost to change it
Oleum Crete sold single-estate Cretan olive oil on a stock theme at a price the theme could not justify. A better theme would have been faster and cheaper, and it would still have been a theme. We built the storefront as software in Hydrogen, kept Shopify for checkout, and the same oil now sells eighteen times more a month with no ad spend. The full breakdown of scope and numbers is in our write-up of when a headless rebuild pays for itself.
When we tell founders to stay on a theme
If you are pre-product-market-fit, under about 100 orders a month, or your roadmap is more SKUs rather than a different buying experience, stay on the theme and spend the difference on photography and ads. We have talked several founders out of headless builds. It is cheaper for everyone to say so in the first call.
The costs that sit outside the build quote
The UAE ecommerce market is large and growing, with estimates ranging from around USD 12.28 billion in 2025 rising to USD 21.18 billion by 2030 to roughly USD 17 billion by 2025 on Statista's methodology, and considerably higher on others. The opportunity is real. So is the running cost.
| Line item | When you pay | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify subscription | Monthly | [$39 Basic, $105 Grow, $399 Advanced monthly, or $29/$79/$299 billed annually](https://www.withorb.com/blog/shopify-pricing) |
| Shopify Plus | Monthly | Listed [from about $2,300/month on a 3-year term](https://sherocommerce.com/blogs/insights/shopify-pricing); usually a budget decision, not a design one |
| Apps and add-ons | Monthly | [Fees, apps and development can double or triple platform spend](https://sherocommerce.com/blogs/insights/shopify-pricing); POS Pro is [$89/month per location](https://www.withorb.com/blog/shopify-pricing) |
| Payment gateway | Per transaction | Percentage plus fixed fee, settlement period, chargeback terms, in writing |
| Hosting (headless) | Monthly | Vercel or equivalent, plus any CMS and search service |
| Photography and copy | One-off per range | Shot list, usage rights, who owns the raw files |
| Trade licence and compliance | Annual | Free zone or mainland, activity codes, VAT registration |
| Ads and automation | Monthly | Media budget is separate from management fee |
Platform, hosting and app subscriptions
Price the stack for twelve months before you sign. Subscription is the visible part; review apps, transaction fees and any headless hosting alongside it.
Payment gateways and UAE merchant accounts
Get the full fee schedule in writing, including settlement timing and refund handling, and confirm which currencies the account settles in.
Photography, copy and product data entry
If a shoot is not in the build quote, it is in your budget somewhere. Loading and enriching 300 SKUs is a line item too.
Trade licence and VAT registration
Selling into the UAE from overseas is different from selling as a UAE entity. Fees vary by free zone and activity, so we cost licensing as its own scope when we handle market entry.
Ads, automation and the first ninety days after launch
Traffic does not arrive because the site is finished. Plan a media budget, a landing page or two, and the automations that stop your team retyping leads. On one client back-office build we automated roughly 20 hours of manual work a week.
How to compare quotes without getting burned
Fixed price versus hourly versus percentage of ad spend
Fixed price puts the estimating risk on us, which is where it belongs. Hourly billing pays the agency for slow work. A fee taken as a percentage of ad spend rewards spending more, not selling more, which is why we never charge it.
Who owns the code, the domain, the ad accounts and the Shopify store
Ask before the deposit, not after the launch. Repository, domain registrar, Shopify ownership, Meta Business Manager and Google Ads should all sit in your name, with the agency added as a user.
Freelancer, offshore agency or senior studio: the honest trade-offs
A good freelancer is cheap and fast until they take a job. Offshore teams are cheap per hour and expensive in review cycles and time zones. A senior studio costs more per week and less per outcome. Our twelve questions to ask a headless Shopify agency works on any of the three.
What a written scope should contain before you pay a deposit
Template list, integration list, languages, performance target, content responsibilities, number of revision rounds, launch date, payment schedule and what a change request costs. If a quote is one page and one number, ask for this.
How we quote, and what happens in the first 12 hours
The free 30-minute call and what to bring to it
Bring your current store URL, your monthly orders and average order value, your catalogue size, and the one thing customers keep asking before they buy. Within 12 hours you get a written point of view and a short audit, yours to keep whether you hire us or not.
Fixed scope, fixed price, in writing
Builds start at $2,000. We scope templates, integrations and content, put a number against it, and that number does not move unless you change the scope. You can see how we build stores and sites before you book.
Month-to-month after launch, never a cut of ad spend
Automation and marketing run as month-to-month retainers. Ad accounts stay in your name. Registered non-profits get a site free.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to build an ecommerce site in Dubai?
A configured theme takes two to three weeks, a custom-designed theme build four to six, a bespoke or light headless front end six to ten, and a full Hydrogen storefront ten to sixteen. The build is rarely the bottleneck. Content, product data and approval cycles are.
Is Shopify or a custom build cheaper over three years?
Shopify is almost always cheaper to run, because you are not maintaining a checkout, a payment integration or PCI compliance. A headless front end on top of Shopify adds hosting and developer time but keeps the cheap part. A fully custom platform only makes sense when your commerce model genuinely does not fit Shopify.
Do I need a UAE trade licence to sell online in the UAE?
If you are operating as a UAE business, yes, with an activity that covers e-commerce, either mainland or in a free zone. Overseas sellers shipping into the UAE have different obligations. We handle licensing and entity setup as a separate scope when founders are entering the market from abroad.
What does it cost to migrate an existing Shopify store to headless?
Most migrations sit in the $10,000–$18,000 band if you keep your existing design language, and above $18,000 if merchandising and page structure change too. Checkout stays with Shopify, so orders and customer data come with you. The cost driver is how many templates and integrations need rebuilding.
How much should I budget monthly to run and market the store after launch?
Add your platform subscription and apps, your gateway fees, then a media budget you can sustain for ninety days, plus a management retainer. For a new store we would rather see a modest media budget run consistently for three months than a large one burned in three weeks.
Can I edit the site myself, or do I have to pay the agency for every change?
You can edit it yourself. Theme builds stay editable in Shopify's editor, and headless builds get a content model so text, images and merchandising are yours to change without a deploy. We hand over documentation and short videos at launch.
